Sorry about the socks Dad!

It seems that my pre planning the year in socks may have hit a snag already, I had made a pair of socks that I thought would be perfect for my dad, so I popped them away in the sock tin until it was nearer to his birthday in March, but then my Pop sent me a late Christmas card (he is just a few months shy of 100 so for him to even send a Christmas card is something else) and my mum mentioned that he loves to receive mail. So later that day I sat down to hand write a letter, it has certainly been a long time since I wrote a long letter to anyone and it did seem a wee bit sad that letter writing was something that is fading from the world, but after a two page extravaganza of life according to me I thought that it would be nice to put something extra in his envelope, I searched my brain for ideas, his favorite foods, chocolate, licorice and plain chippies were all provided at Christmas so he was still well stocked for those things, he loves crosswords but sadly he can no longer see that well and it makes him a bit tearful that he can not do them without really squinting and giving himself a headache, and then boom it hit me, he feels the cold even when it is hot for everyone else, a pair of socks would keep his tootsies warm and cosy, so into the tin I delved and I found the socks that were supposed to be my dad's. They are pure wool and blue -his favorite- and they seemed to be perfect so in the post they were popped and a couple of days later he was calling all the nurses and doctors in (he lives in a care facility because he has some medical issues) to show them all "the beautiful hand knitted socks just like my mother used to make for me" everyone has had to come and see them and acknowledge the awesomeness of the sock. One of the nurses has even arranged for name tags to be sewed into the cuff so they are not "lost" into one of the other patients rooms. He was so chuffed with his socks that I have already planned another pair for him for his birthday in August in his favorite footy teams colours, along with his normal supply of chippies and licorice of course!

I have made great strides in LovelyDaughter1's birthday socks and hope that I can finish the second today so that I can make a start on the first one tomorrow, the yarn has some amazing blues, oranges and purples in it and with luck and my phone actually working tomorrow I might be able to actually  take some pics to share! But for now I have an afternoon of knitting planned, the chores are all done and I have nothing to do until it is time to make dinner so I think that a Sunday afternoon of me time is called for, I hope it is for you too!

Happy New Year!

How scary to think that we are already into the year 2012, I remember watching the Jetsons when I was little and I am pretty sure that by now, according to cartoons, we should be living in funky sky houses with robot maids and flying cars, but no we are not really much more forward than we were last year or come to think of it at the start of this millennium. It is strange to think that when the Jetsons was created the thought of living in 2012 was almost as far away as the moon and yet here we are plodding along with our little selves still making mistakes and still not owning a flying car!

I do have a half a ta-dah, perhaps I should call it a ta or a -dah depending on if you, like me, knit the second sock first and the first sock second. So this is my -dah for today, it is the second sock of a soon to be pair for my dad's birthday.

I decided that this year I would make everyone a pair of socks for their birthday, I wasn't particularly making this pair for my dad but it soon became apparent that these babies were for people who have mahoosive hoofers and the only person I can think of who has big hoofers is my dad, so they have been placed into his birthday pile.  I do have a slight problem with LovelyDaughter1's 16th birthday just a scant 4 weeks away but with some luck I should have dad's other sock off the needles soon and hers begun before it is time to panic.

Have you ever seen something so strange that you have thought "Now I've seen it all!" well today whilst doing our regular weekly shop I discovered this sitting in the supermarket, now remember we are only just into January, and Christmas wrapping paper is still lurking under the lounge chairs waiting for the dog to attack it and shred it into little bits,

Yes, they are Hot Cross Buns!!!! in January!!!!! and to add to further discombobulation to my brain there were Easter Eggs chilling by the milk!!!!!! Even LovelyHubby was a little taken aback by the earlyness of this Easteryness, what on earth are the supermarkets thinking, Eastery bits and bobs while they are still getting rid of the left over Christmas stock!
