Australia Day

Today is Australia Day, happy birthday Australia! This, however, means that as we live 5 minutes from the beach we have been inundated with all the people escaping the heat of Sydney and making our poor little town explode with people, boats, dogs and rubbish. Lots and lots of rubbish is now blowing around the street and into the yards of all of my neighbours as well as ours. I don't have a problem with people enjoying our beautiful seaside town but people take your damn rubbish with you or at least put it into one of the gazillion rubbish bins the council so kindly provides you with!

I have also noticed some odd behavior in our supermarket, while buying the usual groceries today I noticed that there was a bargain bin with Christmas leftovers, an aisle dedicated to the kiddies going back to school, a card stand with Valentines and a stand with Hot Cross Buns and Easter Eggs on it! What ever happened to just waiting until a few weeks before Easter to put the Eggs and Buns out, do we really need that much chocolatey goodness after the very recent weeks of decadent Christmassy goodness.

I am sitting listening to the kids play, leap and bounce in the little blow up pool that they have, it is half full of water and they are having a blast, you may ask why, if we live so close to the beach, are we wasting water by having a blow up pool. The answer is quite simple, on Australia Day we have a rather "interesting" bunch of people arrive, many just want to celebrate on the beach with their families and friends, unfortunately we have a few small pockets of people who over indulge in the sun and turn into horrible people who like to start fights and turn a day of celebration into a day of police, ambulances and helicopters. So this means that in the safety of the backyard the kids can enjoy their final few days of holidays, and I can enjoy a cuppa and some crocheting.

Happy Australia Day everyone!

Brownies in the oven!

As I write this blog I have a batch of chocolate choc chip brownies baking in the oven, the bowl and spoons are being cleaned by the kids and I have a batch of vanilla ice cream thawing a little so that I can make brownie ice cream, it is better to melt the ice cream a little and then add hot brownie to it so that it all melts together and then pop it back into the freezer to firm up a little and voila! Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream. Drizzle some melted chocolate over the top and you have a very decadent dessert that is fit for kids and grownups, unless you are like me and allergic to ice cream!

I finished another bottle cover today and have begun another with a slightly different pattern that I am trying out, I'm still not sure that I am loving it but I will finish it off just to see what it looks like in the end. I still have a long way to go before I am ready for a stall at the market but I hope that in another month I will be ready to roll, here's hoping people are ready to buy. I had some photo's taken yesterday by one of my daughters as she seems to have quite a knack for taking nice pictures and when everything is put together it does look like I am making some progress which is a very good thing.

Well I am off to check on the brownies and the ice cream, I will post pics tomorrow if there are any left!

Welcome :)

Hello everyone who drops in to read my ramblings, I am new to the blogging world although I read "my" blogs everyday with a cup of tea and I love to see what everyone else is doing from all around the world. More often than not I read about the huge amount of snow that is falling causing snowbound days and marvel that at the same time I am sitting in shorts and a singlet and enjoying the sea breeze that is blowing through my house cooling us all down, what an amazing world we do live in.
I am currently working on a few projects for a stall at one of the local markets, I have been busily crocheting  cushion covers, face cloths, dishcloths, and water bottle carriers, which I discovered are very handy when walking our dog as she only likes to walk a little and then be carried the rest of the way :)
Thank you again for dropping in, I will post some pics in the next few days of all my projects so far, but enjoy a picture of Holly that dog that does not like to walk but does love to be carried.
